La Honda Creek OSP—May, 2026

A new portion of the La Honda Creek OSP opened up recently which was accessible by permit only, but I thought it would be good to try it out anyway. I recently discovered that my old bud Joe was an avid hiker so I invited him and Jill to join us on our hike today.

This portion of the preserve is a mix of redwood forests and open grasslands. The lovely forests with their steep hills are reminiscent of El Corte de Madera just to the north, while the grasslands, with cattle, are like the rest of this preserve.

Unlike the lower portion of the preserve, the trails could use a bit of maintenance. They are either overgrown with tall grass or have poison oak growing in and around them. I picked a tick off of the cuff of my pants and hoped that none of his friends managed to escape inspection.
