Northern Loop from Star Hill Road Trailhead (Sunday, 2026-09-20)

We absolutely loved this route! The redwoods and firs were lovely and the huckleberry was ever-present. There were a couple of healthy patches of madrones and manzanita where the redwood duff gave way to sandstone. Although we had a few moments of sun, we were in fog most of the time, which, along with several sightings of banana slugs, increased the redwood experience. The fog also made a section of the Giant Salamander Trail dark and dead quiet. Pure magic! It really seemed like we had the forest to ourselves even though we passed a group of three hikers and about a half dozen groups of one to two cyclists, including one group of about 20 riders, who were fortunately off the trail taking a group photo when we passed.

Sorry, no photos today.
