Before our Iceland hiking trip, I had bookmarked a few butt-kicker hikes for training, but we didn't hit them all. Since it was hot at home and foggy at the coast, I selected one of the coastal trails.
The Alta Vista trail is definitely a butt-kicker. There was about 1750' of gain in 2.5 miles, much of it on stairs. We didn't get any vista since it was cold and drizzly. But the drizzle kept things cool, and generated quite the atmosphere.
Next time, we need to avoid the unmaintained private trail at the bottom of the Alta Vista trail and cut through the neighbood and up the Alta Vista Road instead.
Also, this was my first hike with Gaia. I like it.
