Late wildflowers frame Stinson Beach

Muir Woods—July, 2009

I joined Dave McFarland on a hike from Muir Woods to Stinson Beach. Along for the ride was his colleague Jing Luo, Deborah Walkup and Elizabeth Scott from our backpacking class, and a couple of Deb's friends from Chicago Joe and Pam.

I had taken this hike a couple of years ago. As before, we had lunch at the Sand Dollar and had yummy oysters, garlic fries, and giant burgers. And beer. Rereading about my previous hike, I see now that I forgot to order the bread pudding. Damn! Unlike last time, the weather was beautiful, so we hung out at the beach for a while. Pausing to digest our food certainly made the climb back a lot less painful.
